Westway Diner

Hell’s Kitchen, New York City

Before heading back to W. Caldwell, we grabbed dinner at the Westway.  Douglas ordered the rigatoni with a tomato sauce and Italian sausage.  Lionel ate two, TWO, cheeseburgers with fries, cole slaw and a pickle.  I had a bowl of French onion soup.  We all drank water and Douglas had a coke too.

unknown Diner

Tribeca, New York City

Our friend Lionel is visiting from France this week.  For his first diner experience, Lionel wandered around Tribeca.  There he had an omelet with cheddar cheese and potatoes.  Also a cup of coffee, American style.

Celeste Diner

Brooklyn, New York

Now working in downtown Brooklyn, for an insurance company.  Keep those claims and accident reports coming.  For lunch I had the Arizona Hero with fries and chocolate milk.  The sandwich was a chicken salad with bacon, lettuce and tomato.  Not sure if it’s named after the state or the ship.

Westway Diner

Hell’s Kitchen, New York City

Although the restaurant was full of NY police, we weren’t selected for a random bag search.  Good thing since we were carrying counterfeit bills, stolen art, forged social security cards, bootlegged DVDs, and way too many controlled substances.

Douglas ordered three eggs (over easy of course), potatoes and toast. I had a western sandwich, which is basically a small western omelet on an english muffin.  We shared a plate of sausage and both had water and coffee.

Train Diner Again

West Caldwell, New Jersey

Before heading into the city today we revisited the Train Diner.  The Mildred Biddles clone wasn’t there this time.  Instead we had a waitress with Afghan Hound hair.  Douglas ordered pancakes with two eggs (over easy) and sausage.  I had the french toast with two eggs (scrambled with cheese) and bacon.  We also had coffee and orange juice.

Caldwell Diner Redux

Caldwell, New Jersey

We had breakfast at home this weekend, but managed to visit the Caldwell Diner again before seeing a matinee of Fantastic 4.  Thumbs down on the movie, read the comic books instead.  At the diner Douglas had a chocolate soda and I had a vanilla soda.  Not as good as Tony’s Place, but a close second. We also shared half of a canteloupe.

Caldwell Diner

Caldwell, New Jersey

I had a Western omellette with wheat toast and hashbrowns and Douglas ordered eggs (over easy) with pancakes and sausage.  We both had coffee and orange juice.  Nice atmosphere, but many loud children and teenagers.

Train Diner

West Caldwell, New Jersey

I had a short stack of pancakes, scrambled eggs with cheese, and bacon.  Douglas ordered eggs benedict with hashbrowns and sausage.  We both had coffee and orange juice.  Our very friendly waitress reminded me of Mildred Biddles with her bleached blonde hair, bright red lipstick and blue eyeliner.  If her hair had been up in a beehive I would have thought I was at the Skyway circa 1974.

Rainbow Diner

Verona, New Jersey

I ordered the whole wheat pancakes with bananas and strawberries.  Douglas had a waffle with berries and bacon. We both had coffee.  Inspite of its name, the diner was not gay themed.

Original Pancake House

West Caldwell, New Jersey

I had pancakes, bacon, and two scrambled eggs with cheese.  Douglas ordered two eggs over easy, hashbrowns, and bacon.  We both had coffee and orange juice.  This was the last diner we ate in before leaving for France, so it was appropriate to restart here.
